Toyota's perpetually popular Corolla sedan is offered in six trims--L, LE, LE Eco, XLE, SE and XSE. A "Plus" package is available on LE and S models. Every Corolla is powered by a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine with variable valve timing. In the L, LE and SE, the engine produces 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while in the LE Eco, Valvematic technology bumps output slightly to 140 horsepower. Base L Corollas come with either a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission--the only model in the range to offer a traditional automatic. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard on all trims, though the SE is available with a 6-speed manual.
All Corollas are easy on fuel. The L returns an estimated combined 31 mpg, while the LE gets 32 mpg combined. The leader of the pack, however, is the LE Eco, which gets 34 mpg combined, including an excellent--and best-in-class--42 mpg on the highway.
Front disc and rear drum brakes are standard, and suspension is handled through independent MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam in the rear.
Standard equipment on the Corolla L includes LED headlights and running lights, air conditioning, power mirrors and windows, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. The Corolla LE trim and higher add automatic climate control, Entune Audio, a backup camera, cruise control, Bluetooth with voice command, power door locks and keyless entry. The XLE boasts 16-inch alloys, LED taillights, and LED daytime running lights, plus a sunroof, premium interior materials, and a 7-inch touchscreen with satellite and HD radio.
The LE Eco, in addition to the Valvematic-enhanced engine, adds 15-inch steel wheels and adds a rear spoiler. The SE, meanwhile, lends a sporty appearance to the Corolla, building on the LE's equipment and adding 17-inch alloys, front and rear sport styling, premium upholstery, and more. Finally, the Corolla XSE includes everything found in the LE and SE, as well as heated front seats with power-adjustable driver's seat and paddle shifters for the CVT.
All Corollas come standard with eight airbags, as well as enhanced stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes with brake assist.

For 2019, the Toyota Corolla carries over unchanged.
The Corolla has been volume leader for Toyota for several years and the latest version offers buyers even more bang for their buck. In a crowded compact segment, against the Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra and MAZDA3, the Corolla stands out for its fresh, athletic styling, as well as its roomy, feature-rich interior. A fuel-conscious LE Eco trim achieves a class-leading 34 combined MPG. With Toyota's outstanding reputation for reliability, the 2019 Corolla continues to lead this segment.
