Nissan has performed formidably in the latest J.D. Power U.S. Automotive, Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) SM Study – with three Nissan models scoring impressively in their respective class.
The all-new 2016 Nissan TITAN XD took honors in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment, while the new Maxima topped the Large Car segment, and the reimagined Altima took the silver medal in the immensely competitive Midsize Car segment.
This was the 21st year of the annual APEAL Study, which surveys purchasers and lessees of new vehicles, allowing them to evaluate their cars, trucks and SUVS across 77 specific categories. The results are combined into an overall score measured on a zero to 1,000 APEAL point scale.
Christian Meunier, senior vice president of U.S. Sales & Marketing and Operation for Nissan North America, said it was exciting to see recent changes to major nameplates receive such a positive response.
"It is gratifying to see three vehicles that are either all-new or redesigned receive such high marks from customers," Meunier said. "And along with our best-selling sedans and crossovers, Nissan is providing more options as we launch the 'Year of the Truck' with our all-new TITAN and TITAN XD trucks."
The TITAN scored 867 points to dominate its class, while the Maxima tallied 857 points. The 2016 Altima, Nissan's best-selling vehicle, with 824 points, was up seven points from last year.
Nissan's updated design is on full display with the new Maxima – signature boomerang lights, V-motion front end, and a unique floating roof appearance cut a dynamic figure that makes the Maxima an eye-popping ride in motion or sitting still. Maxima's premium, upscale interior is anchored by a driver's cockpit that rivals luxury vehicles with its bespoke features and premium soft-touch materials.
As a car “created by driving enthusiasts for driving enthusiasts,” the Maxima drives like no other sedan in existence. The latest round of upgrades enhances the Maxima’s class-dominating style and performance, cementing its status as one of the most exhilarating rides on the road. From its crisp, contemporary design to its brawny engine and razor sharp handling, everything about the all-new Maxima makes it the perfect car for drivers truly passionate about the whole car experience.
And the new Altima doesn’t just look more sleek and aerodynamic, it’s actually more aerodynamic on the road. With the addition of active grille shutters and underfloor aero covers, as well as a redesigned windshield and front and rear fascia, the new Altima has improved its coefficient of drag from 0.29 Cd to 0.26 Cd.
